Office of Cannabis Management explores “magic mushroom” legality and benefits

June 5, 2026

DULUTH, Minn. (KQDS-TV)- A new Minnesota state law is asking Office of Cannabis Management to look into the possibly of legalizing “magic mushrooms” in the state.

A number of advocates and legislators are interested in using ‘magic mushrooms’ to treat PTSD and depression.

The executive director of Office of Cannabis Management said military veterans have also given their two cents on treatments – saying it has helped them in other states where it is legal.

“What they asked our office to do was to kind of go out, talk to Minnesotans who have experience or knowledge or curiosity about psilocybin, and put together a proposal for a pilot program that might explore that medicinal program to help people with those treatment-resistant mental health issues,” said Eric Taubel, Executive Director, Office of Cannabis Management.

As of June 2026, nothing has been set in stone.

The Office of Cannabis Management is still in the stages of receiving feedback for potentially creating a pilot program.
