Oil Prices Surge, EVs Gain Consumer Attention

March 26, 2026

Gotrade News – The global shift in energy preferences is being influenced by rising oil prices. The crude oil price surge, now at US$99.75 per barrel, stems from geopolitical tensions involving the US, Israel, and Iran. This scenario is nudging consumers to consider electric vehicles as an alternative.

Shift Toward Electric Vehicles

In this context, the US electric car market is starting to show signs of revival. Previously, the market appeared stagnant as manufacturers pivoted to gasoline-fueled SUV production. However, the gasoline price hike to US$6.81 per gallon has steered consumers toward used electric vehicles. Showrooms in San Francisco are reporting increased interest, with used electric vehicle prices under US$30,000.

Maximilian Quertermous from Ever noted that consumers are increasingly aware of the economic benefits of electric vehicles. The high gasoline prices have become a significant discussion point among customers, highlighting a substantial shift in consumer preferences amid a volatile energy market.

Future Fuel Alternatives

Meanwhile, the development of more stable fuels continues. Hydrogen fuel stands out as a strong candidate. Hydrogen-based vehicles operate through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, producing electricity without carbon emissions. Despite facing infrastructure challenges, the hydrogen vehicle market is projected to reach US$22.96 billion by 2026.

Additionally, biofuels and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) are also garnering attention. SAF offers the advantage of being directly usable in aircraft without engine modifications. Its usage in the aviation sector is expected to rise significantly by 2050, in line with EU regulations.

These advancements signify a movement towards more sustainable energy diversification. Reducing reliance on fossil fuels is crucial to mitigating economic risks posed by geopolitical volatility. Consumers are now required to be more flexible in choosing energy sources for their daily needs.
