Olmsted County opens cannabis microbusiness applications

June 9, 2025

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Olmsted County is opening applications for cannabis microbusiness registrations, aligning with Minnesota’s adult-use cannabis law.

Applications are now being accepted through June 20. The county plans to issue up to 14 cannabis business registrations, with eight designated for microbusinesses.

Currently, applications are only being accepted for these eight microbusiness licenses. If more than eight applications are received, a public lottery will determine the recipients. This random selection will be managed by Olmsted County elections employees, with details about the lottery to be announced on the county’s website two weeks prior.

Applicants must submit a complete application, pay a $100 nonrefundable fee, and meet several requirements, including undergoing a background check and having a secured business location.  The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. on June 20.

Three alternate applicants will also be selected in case any primary applicants cannot fulfill the requirements within six months, or 90 days if an extension is granted.
