Onslow County hosts hazardous waste collection event to protect environment

A Residential Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is being hosted by Onslow County Solid Waste, in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, May 10.

Officials say residents contribute to keeping hazardous materials out of the landfill by participating, protecting the environment and community from toxins and other potential dangers. Multiple agencies are assisting for the proper disposal of pesticides, herbicides, and prescription drugs.

Some common household hazardous items include:

  • paint and paint-related material
  • pool chemicals
  • household cleaners and chemicals
  • aerosols
  • fluorescent light bulbs
  • batteries
  • gasoline
  • diesel
  • kerosene
  • anti-freeze
  • motor oil
