HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHP) — Another PA Farm Show has come and gone, and with that, so goes the famous butter sculpture.

This year, the show celebrated America’s 250th year, paying tribute to the Declaration of Independence, the Liberty, and historical figures like Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross.

Now the 1,000 pounds of butter will have a new place on a dairy farm in Mifflintown, and will be distributed into two methane digestors.

On Sunday, the sculpture was dismantled by members of the American Dairy Association North East, Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program, Reinford Farms, and the Friendship Community 4-H Club of Dauphin County.

Once it’s broken down in the digestor, it will be turned into renewable energy at Reinford Farms.

“It’s the perfect example of a sustainable and cyclical operation,” said Brett Reinford. “Our digesters provide an ideal solution for our farm and retailers to turn waste into energy.”
