‘Pacific Rim’ Prequel TV Series Coming To Streaming
April 17, 2025
A “Pacific Rim” TV series already under development is coming to Amazon, presumably to eventually stream on Amazon Prime Video. That’s the news from Variety, which was the first to report on the series being in development at Legendary Entertainment last August.

Specific plot details are being kept under wraps, but the “Pacific Rim” series will be a live-action show, and it is said to be a prequel taking place before the “Pacific Rim” films.

Eric Heisserer will serve as writer and executive producer. Heisserer’s writing credits include “Arrival,” Netflix‘s “Bird Box,” and “Shadow and Bone,” and the 2011 remake of “The Thing.”
“Eric is a multitalented, prolific creator whose track record of critical and commercial successes speaks for itself,” said Jason Clodfelter, president of Legendary Television said last year when the show was first announced. “We are thrilled to launch our partnership with Eric, Chronology, and Carmen, with a new entry in the epic, globally popular ‘Pacific Rim’ universe. We are certain their vision will make for an enthralling expansion to Legendary’s beloved franchise.”
Rather than in the Monsterverse, where you’ve got your giant monsters who are problems and giant monsters who are also problems but try to be less problematic than the other monsters, in the world of “Pacific Rim,” all the Kaiju are problems. Emerging from a crazy interdimensional rift in the middle of the ocean, the Kaiju of “Pacific Rim” keep attacking until they’re put down by the Jaegers – massive, human-controlled robots capable of challenging the seaborne monsters.
“Pacific Rim” was directed by Guillermo del Toro and made $411 million when it released in theaters in 2013. Steven S. DeKnight took the helm for the 2018 sequel “Pacific Rim: Uprising,” which didn’t make as big a splash as the original, netting $291 million at the box office.
The “Pacific Rim” prequel won’t be the explosive franchise’s first TV series either. The anime series “Pacific Rim: The Black” ran on the streamer Netflix for two seasons between 2021 and 2022. The series follows two troubled teenage survivors of the complete abandonment of Australia. They find a deactivated training Jaeger called an Atlas Destroyer and, upon reactivating it, use it to try to find their lost parents.
