District 6 City Councilmember Steve Madison, representatives from Pasadena Water and Power (PWP), members of PASADENA 100, and students from Polytechnic School’s Sustainability Club will host an educational event focused on solar energy and battery systems for homes and businesses in Pasadena.

By News Desk

The event follows a successful Solar Homes Tour and Information Session held in Council District 7 last April and aims to help residents learn more about the role of rooftop solar and battery storage in the city’s clean energy future.

In 2023, the Pasadena City Council unanimously committed to achieving clean, renewable, and reliable power by the end of 2030. A Pasadena Water and Power study identified rooftop solar energy and battery systems as a critical component of a three-pronged strategy to reach that goal. PASADENA 100 and Polytechnic School’s Sustainability Club are partnering with the utility to increase public awareness about these technologies.

Attendees will have the opportunity to visit homes that generate their own electricity from solar power, learn about the benefits of energy independence, and see how distributed renewable energy contributes to the city’s broader sustainability efforts.

During the event, Madison will share a message from the City Council, while a PWP representative will provide information about available rebates and pricing. Members of PASADENA 100 and Polytechnic students will guide participants to view nearby solar installations, all within walking distance. Homeowners with solar systems will also be available to answer questions and discuss their experiences.

A Summer Solstice lunch will be offered following the tour at the host home.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to noon at the home of Jamie Scott and Felix Breden, located at 515 Palmetto Drive in Pasadena.
