PENDLETON, Ore. – A ribbon-cutting ceremony today marked the completion of a $1.8 million solar canopy project at Pendleton’s Wastewater Treatment and Resource Recovery Facility.

Ameresco, Inc., an energy solutions provider, collaborated with the City of Pendleton on this 240 kW solar canopy. Expected to generate 325,000 kWh of electricity annually, the project will offset 30% of the facility’s energy use, said an Ameresco press release.

The project is part of a broader initiative for renewable energy and efficiency upgrades at the facility. Future plans include integrating a battery energy storage system to enhance energy management capabilities, Ameresco added.

The ceremony featured remarks from city leaders and project partners, followed by a tour of the solar canopy.
