Poland awarded over 1.6 GW of solar and wind in renewable auctions in 2024

January 6, 2025

In 2024, Poland’s energy regulator URE selected 200 renewable projects exceeding 1.6 GW in capacity and 16.1 TWh in expected power generation through auctions, representing a total value of PLN5.1bn (€1.2bn).

Only two of the seven auctions held in December 2024 were resolved. Over 1.5 GW of renewable capacity was awarded in the country’s first auction for solar and wind installations greater than 1 MW, which received 172 solar bids and two onshore wind bids. URE approved 126 solar projects totalling around 1,481 MW and two wind projects totalling about 91 MW. The minimum price agreed under the auction was PLN244.80/MWh (€57.5/MWh) for solar compared to a maximum price of PLN334.77/MWh (€78.6/MWh), while the minimum price for wind agreed was PLN149/MWh (€35/MWh) compared to a maximum price of PLN175/MWh (€41.1/MWh). The second auction for wind and solar PV projects below 1 MW attracted 96 bids for PV projects totalling 67 MW.

After allocating nearly 3.9 GW in 2021, renewable auctions declined to 738 MW in 2022 and 618 MW in 2023, rebounding in 2024.
