On Nov. 5, 2025, the Orleans County Major Felony Crime Task Force, the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department, the Medina Police Department and the New York State Office of Cannabis Management executed search warrants at The Hemp House Store and More at 409 Main St. in Medina and at 2651 Angling Road in the Town of Ridgeway.

The searches followed an investigation into the sale and distribution of high-grade cannabis flower, THC edibles, cannabis wax and THC vapes without a New York State cannabis license.

Police reported seizing more than 64 pounds of cannabis flower, more than 264 pounds of cannabis edibles, 97 THC vapes, 106 vials of cannabis wax, more than 6 pounds of marijuana hash, 10 containers of THC concentrate distillate, more than 1 pound of psilocybin mushrooms and more than $96,000 in cash.

The two individuals were charged in connection with the investigation.

Mitchell A. Kwandrans, 38, of Medina, who was allegedly operating the The Hemp House and More, is charged with four counts of Criminal Possession of Cannabis in the First Degree.

Marcus Verratti, 40, also of Medina is charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of Cannabis in the First Degree.

“New York State will not tolerate businesses selling illicit cannabis. We want to send a clear message that untested, unsafe products do not belong in our communities,” said Dan Haughney, OCM director of enforcement. “Thank the Orleans County Major Felony Crime Task Force, the Orleans County sheriff, the Orleans County district attorney and the Medina Police Department for their partnership that made these actions possible.”

Both men were processed at the Orleans County Jail and issued appearance tickets.  They are expected to return to court on Dec. 6

The Hemp Store and More has been shut down by the state. Police say they are still investigating and more charges are possible.
