Ports of Jersey has received an international accreditation for its commitment to sustainability and the environment.

The company announced on Monday it had been awarded its first EcoPorts Port Environmental Review System (PERS) certification.

Ports of Jersey said it had to showcase how it manages environmental responsibilities, engages with the community and stakeholders, and continuously improve operations as part of the “rigorous assessment”.

Captain William Sadler, Jersey Harbour Master, said he was “delighted” by the result.

He said: “It’s the result of ongoing investment, collaboration, and a shared vision for a greener future for Jersey’s maritime sector.”

Tim Verhoeven, EcoPorts coordinator added, “This recognition highlights their strong commitment to environmental management and sustainable port operations.

“By meeting the rigorous standards of the Port Environmental Review System, Ports of Jersey joins a network of leading European ports dedicated to sharing knowledge, raising environmental standards, and working together for a greener future.”
