Prime Video Pulls the Plug on Dick Wolf’s New Cop Drama With 92% Audience Score
May 9, 2025
Fans of On Call on Prime Video have gotten some bad news. It has been revealed that the show will not be returning with new episodes on the streaming platform, but not all hope is lost for fans of the series just yet.
Per Deadline, On Call will not be moving forward with a second season on Prime Video. The news may come as a surprise to fans, as the series was a hit with viewership, reaching No. 1 on Prime Video’s streaming chart in the U.S. after simultaneously dropping all eight episodes of its freshman season in January. It was also largely enjoyed by viewers, earning a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, despite its mixed critics’ rating of 53%.

NBC reveals whether Law & Order: SVU and the original Law & Order series will have a place on its 2025-26 broadcast schedule.
Fans shouldn’t give up hope just yet on On Call. Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television are reportedly shopping the series to other platforms, and given its popularity, there’s a good chance it could move elsewhere for a potential second season. One candidate believed to be interested is NBCUniversal’s Peacock, which is the home of Dick Wolf’s One Chicago and Law & Order franchise shows. Because there is “franchise potential” with On Call, there are high hopes that it will be picked up, but the odds are estimated to be at 50-50 that this will actually happen.
As for why it’s not moving forward at Prime Video, there were apparent plans to possibly give On Call a two-season renewal, but talks reportedly broke down when it came to disagreements over the financials. Because the show was not developed in-house by Amazon, the streamer was said to be arguing that it was losing money on the show. The split was said to be amicable, however, with the producers getting Amazon’s blessing to take back the rights to the existing season if they manage to find a new home for On Call.
The series was executive produced by Dick Wolf alongside his son, Elliot Wolf, who co-created the series with Tim Walsh. Additionally, Walsh produces alongside the two Wolfs, as well as series star Eriq La Salle and Peter Jankowski. Other stars include Troian Bellisario, Brandon Larracuente, Lori Loughlin, and Rich Ting.

The show, based on a comic book series, is perfect for Silo and Fallout fans.
In the series, Bellisario and Larracuente play a veteran officer and rookie cop patrolling the streets of Long Beach, California. The two respond to emergency calls while also assisting with the murder investigation of a fellow officer. There were ideas being considered on where to go with a second season if the show gets renewed.
“We left some threads,” Walsh previously told TV Insider. “The fentanyl trade that Smokey was involved in, that’s still out there hanging out there for us to take. And then just all really the character stuff, quite honestly, that we want to explore more deeply in Season 2. That’s really the focal point, is the two leads.”
On Call is streaming on Prime Video.
