Method Man - Zamnesia

Method Man is teaming up with Zamnesia.

A member of the pioneering rap group Wu-Tang Clan is releasing premium cannabis seeds in the United States and Europe through the Zamnesia site.

Rapper Method Man is kicking off an exclusive collaboration between his Tical cannabis brand and Amsterdam-based Zamnesia, a digital retailer of cannabis-related items and mind-enhancing products operating in Europe and the U.S.

“I don’t put my name on just anything,” said Method Man. “These Tical seeds? Handpicked, perfected and ready to rep real flavor across borders. Big love to Zamnesia for showing up and showing love.”

The partnership, which has been given the tagline “We Bring the Buzz,” spotlights eight premium Tical cannabis seeds that will only be available for purchase through Zamnesia. The promotional campaign will leverage both Method Man’s official channels and Zamnesia’s global network and feature exclusive collector’s packaging and a drop release format.

“Tical and Zamnesia are a natural fit. We’re united by a foundation of authenticity and deep roots in the cannabis culture,” said Nick Avé, GM at Zamnesia. “Both Method Man and Zamnesia are regarded as OGs in the cannabis scene, and we bring decades of experience, respect and influence to the table.”

Method Man is not the only music star with a presence in cannabis retail. Rap and entrepreneurial icon Snoop Dogg extended his Smoke Weed Every Day (S.W.E.D.) marijuana dispensary and coffee shop concept online with a new e-commerce site, SWED.com.

In addition, B. Real of groundbreaking alternative rap group Cypress Hill founded a chain of cannabis stores called Dr. Greenthumb; and Raine Maida, lead singer and founder of alternative rock band Our Lady Peace, is co-founder of Canadian cannabis brand Loop/Pool.

U.S. cannabis retailing goes digital

Cannabis remains illegal under U.S. federal law and is subject to regulations that can vary widely at the state and local level, making digital cannabis retailing a tricky proposition.

However, this has not stopped other businesses from launching digital commerce initiatives that involve cannabis. For example, Weedmaps, an Irvine, Calif.-based cannabis marketplace from WM Technologies that partners with NBA star Kevin Durant, offers an iOS mobile app which allows orders to be submitted directly with licensed Weedmaps retailers via a single, seamless, in-app experience.

In addition, Boston-area omnichannel cannabis retailer Redi operates an e-commerce site for in-store pickup and even lets partner cannabis product brands target customer via a retail media network. Another Boston-area company, Lantern, provides third-party delivery for medical and recreational cannabis dispensaries.
