Rapper Berner To Headline San Diego Cannabis Awards Show
March 10, 2025
Rapper and weed entrepreneur Berner will headline the awards show for a California cannabis competition this weekend, taking the stage in suburban San Diego County to bring his often pot-centric hip hop to a crowd of marijuana enthusiasts. Billed as The Farmers Cup Awards Sesh: Harvest Edition, the event is slated for March 15 at the Moonlight Amphitheatre in Vista, California.
Joshua Caruso, co-founder and CEO of San Diego-based Farmers Cup, says that Saturday’s awards show will have the distinction of being the first licensed cannabis event held in California’s second-largest county. As such, the festivities will feature on-site cannabis consumption and licensed sales of marijuana products hosted by the event’s commercial cannabis partner, The Cake House.
“The Farmers Cup Awards Festival is more than just an event—it’s a pivotal moment for the cannabis culture and industry in the San Diego region,” Caruso writes in an email. “As the first licensed commercial cannabis event to allow cannabis sales and consumption in the San Diego region, we will work to erase the negative stigma associated with cannabis in our community and highlight the growing significance of legal cannabis in the California economy and culture.”
Competition Features California Cannabis Products
The Harvest Edition cannabis competition is one of several held each year by Farmers Cup to acknowledge and celebrate California’s top weed products and brands. Unlike most of the company’s events, which are open to a variety of cannabis products including vapes, edibles, flower, concentrates and more, the Harvest Edition is reserved for herbal cannabis products including packaged cannabis flower and pre-rolled joints.
Entries for the cannabis competition are evaluated by consumers who purchased judging kits from licensed San Diego dispensary Golden State Greens and recorded their favorites through the weed app Budist. Winners will be selected for several categories, including best indoor flower, sun-grown flower and infused and non-infused pre-rolls.
The festival will include more than 50 vendor booths, interactive activities, live entertainment, a foodie competition and more. A Vendor Village will offer cannabis products, accessories and merchandise from some of California’s leading cannabis brands, with retail sales hosted by The Cake House.
“We are beyond excited to be bringing this historical event to the San Diego region” Caruso said in a statement from the Farmers Cup. “The Farmers Cup has been hosting informational and educational cannabis events throughout San Diego County for many years, but this will be our first licensed event to include cannabis sales and consumption onsite. We are ecstatic that the City of Vista has welcomed us into their city to host this historical event!”
Weed and Hip-Hop Icon Berner Tops Entertainment Bill
The live entertainment at The Farmers Cup Awards Sesh: Harvest Edition features a bill headlined by Berner and filled out with acts including Luniz, E.N Young, Nightshade Navarro and more. Berner (named Gilbert Anthony Milam Jr. at his birth in San Francisco in 1983), is also the co-founder and CEO of Cookies, a cannabis and lifestyle brand with a global presence. The artist has nearly two dozen albums under his belt, with cannabis culture and advocacy a major theme of his creative work throughout his career.
“It’s amazing to hear that The Farmer’s Cup is the first licensed cannabis event in San Diego and I’m excited to be a part of the event and creating something special,” Berner writes in an emailed statement.
The Farmers Cup Awards Sesh: Harvest Edition will take place on Saturday, March 15 at the Moonlight Amphitheatre located inside Brengle Terrace Park in the heart of Vista, California. Tickets and more information about the event are available online. The festival and show are open only to adults aged 21 and up.
