Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine Co-Developing Mattel & Amazon MGM Studios’ ‘Polly Pocke

EXCLUSIVE: Mattel Studios’ Polly Pocket movie with Amazon MGM Studios continues to move forward to the big screen now withscreenwriters Jordan Weiss and Dan Brier penning the script, and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine co-developing the Lily Collins-led live action feature take of the popular micro-doll toys.
Previously it was announced that 8x Primetime Emmy nominee Lena Dunham was directing and writing back in June 2021. The Girls architect and star revealed in a New Yorker interview in July 2024 she was no longer attached.
Emily in Paris star Collins remains attached to play the titular role with her Case Study Films producing.

Weiss directed the HBO Max movie, Sweethearts, starring Kiernan Shipka and Nico Hiraga, which she co-wrote with Brier. Weiss also created the Hulu Kat Dennings series Dollface and penned the Disney summer sleeper sequel Freakier Friday which grossed over $152M worldwide.
At Mattel Studios, Polly Pocket will be overseen by Darian Greenbaum, Senior Executive and Ivan Sanchez, Senior Director of Production and Development. Two-time Oscar nominee Robbie Brenner is producing on behalf of Mattel and Oscar winner Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter are producing for Hello Sunshine, along with Emily Ferenbach as an EP.
Polly Pocket first launched in 1989 with a series of tiny collectibles. In 2018, Mattel reintroduced the toy with updates to the tiny and mighty doll for a new generation. The line spawned animated TV specials and YouTube content.

Upcoming for Mattel Studios are Amazon MGM Studios’ Masters of the Universe in theaters on June 5, 2026 and Apple Original Films and Skydance’s Matchbox movie which is eyeing a fall 2026 release. Mattel Studios with Barbie delivered to Warner Bros their highest grossing movie in the studio’s history, that Greta Gerwig directed, Margot Robbie-Ryan Gosling starring movie racking up $1.44 billion worldwide, and eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, with a win for the Billie Eilish-Finneas O’Connell song “What Was I Made For?”
