Regarding the launch of a large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Ulsan on the 20th, President Lee Jae-myung said, “It is of special significance to attract large-scale AI data centers in the provinces.”

President Lee attended the “AI Global Cooperation Company Meeting” and the launch ceremony of the AI Data Center, where he met with AI-related entrepreneurs at the Ulsan Exhibition and Convention Center to discuss ways to foster the industry, and said, “The reason I came here is because (the hosting of the center) seems to create new hope for the local economy and industry.”

SK Group will create an Ulsan AI data center in Mipo National Industrial Complex in Ulsan with Amazon Web Service (AWS). About 60,000 GPUs will be used, making it the largest AI data center in Korea.

President Lee also encouraged SK Chairman Chey Tae-won, saying, “We (Chey Tae-won) did a great job.”

Chairman Choi, Kakao CEO Jung-ah, Samsung SDS President Lee Joon-hee, LG AI Research Institute President Baek Kyung-seok, Lunit CEO Seo Joon-ho, Puriosa AI CEO Baek Joon-hee, Korea AI and SW Association President Cho Joon-hee, and NAVER Cloud CEO Kim Yoo-won attended the meeting.

President Lee said, “The Republic of Korea has grown rapidly so far, but we are now crossing the border with commercial words,” adding, “We can move on to a new world or go down again depending on the preparation.”

“I think we will overcome the crisis with the great power of our people and face a new world,” he said. “Today, Korean stock prices are hitting 2999.1, and I hope we can move beyond 3,000 points with new expectations to a new era of growth.”

Referring to Kakao CEO Jung Shin-ah and others, President Lee said, “The greatness of companies in the greatness of our people is leading our industry and the business world with their outstanding abilities,” adding, “I believe they will play a great role in leading the world in the AI high-tech era we face.”

President Lee also said, “Ulsan is also the first starting point for Korean industrialization. All provinces in Korea are like that, but the Ulsan region’s economy is said to be in bad shape recently. He added, “I hope Ulsan’s economy will revive and Korea’s growth will be a starting point.”
