Report: Coca-Cola 600 on Prime Video sees drop in viewership from last season

May 28, 2025

This past Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway had around 2.6 million viewers on Prime Video, per a report from Austin Karp of Sports Business Journal. That’s down from the 3.1 million who tuned into last year’s rain-shortened race on FOX.

This was Prime Video‘s inaugural NASCAR Cup Series broadcast. Despite failing to match or exceed the viewership from last year’s Coca-Cola 600, the overall number has to be considered a success. After all, we’re talking a streaming service versus one of the big four TV networks. Compared to the last regular season race — Kansas Speedway on May 11 — the number looks even better. That race, won by Kyle Larson, drew 2.319 million viewers on FS1.

Viewership aside, this year’s Coca-Cola 600 was largely viewed as a home run for both NASCAR and Prime Video. With Adam Alexander, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Steve Letarte in the booth, Danielle TrottaCarl Edwards and Corey LaJoie hosted a trackside pre-show. Trotta, Edwards and LaJoie were a steady presence throughout the broadcast and later hosted the post-show.

Race winner Ross Chastain and runner-up William Byron both joined the post-show. In those respective moments, viewers heard the raw emotion from both drivers, elation from Chastain, heartbreak for Byron.

The race itself saw an entertaining battle for the lead between Byron and Denny Hamlin for the lead. But in the end, it was Chastain who had the best car. He made the race-winning pass on Lap 395. Chastain went from 40th to first in 600 miles, forced to go to a backup car after crashing in practice. He is the first driver to start last without a penalty and win since Richard Petty‘s triumph at Richmond Raceway in 1971, per Seth Eggert.

“That’s the dedication it takes from Trackhouse,” Chastain said. “There were people that had Saturdays off, and they came in for this Chevy. To drive on that final run and pass two cars that had been way better all night. … Holy cow, we just won the World 600.”
