Rescue teams conduct search at Camarillo cannabis farm after immigration raid
Workers at the Glass House Farms cannabis farm in Camarillo reported unaccounted colleagues who may still be at the property and in need of help.
First responders in Camarillo completed a six-hour search for employees of a cannabis farm that was subjected to an immigration raid earlier in the week.
The Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) said it received a call at about 4:30 p.m. Friday from employees at the Glass House Farms cannabis farm about missing colleagues. The call came after roughly 200 people were arrested on Thursday in immigration operations in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.
In the call, employees said some of their coworkers may be on the property and may need assistance. About 30 firefighters were joined by sheriff’s deputies and a K-9 rescue team for the search.
Ultimately, no individuals were located, according to VCFD, and the search was completed around 10 p.m.
The Department of Homeland Security said agents were deployed to Glass House Farms properties in Camarillo and Carpinteria on Thursday. The operation resulted in an hours-long protest in Amarillo, where a clash between agents and demonstrators occurred.
Seven people were hurt during the clash with agents, resulting in four people being taken to a nearby hospital, VCFD said. The severity of those individuals’ injuries was not made clear.
