Hyderabad: Chief minister ARevanth Reddyon Friday directed the energy department to formulate a comprehensive three-yearelectricity planwith a strong focus on renewable energy, aligning with the state’s ‘Clean and Green Energy Policy.’This roadmap is aimed at meetingTelangana‘s rapidly rising power demand, projected to reach 18,138 MW by 2025-26 and 31,808 MW by 2034-35.At a high-level review meeting, officials informed the CM that the state had successfully met an all-time high power demand of 17,172 MW this year—a 9.8% increase over the previous year. CM Revanth hailed this as a significant achievement and praised the state’s ability to ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply even under record-breaking demand.”This is a proud moment for Telangana. Despite the soaring demand, we have managed to provide seamless electricity without major disruptions. Now, we must plan for the future,” he said. With Hyderabad evolving into a major hub for global capability centres, data centres, and large-scale infrastructure projects, including irrigation schemes, metro rail expansion, railway lines, electric vehicle deployment, satellite townships, and radial roads, the CM emphasised that power infrastructure must keep pace with the state’s development ambitions.”We must modernise our existing network and build future-ready infrastructure that can handle the growing load and ensure reliable power supply across all sectors,” Revanth said.Clean energy at the coreThe CM directed officials to prioritise renewable energy, especially floating solar power and pumped storage projects, to sustainably meet future demand. He urged them to collaborate with global energy firms to scale up generation capacity.”Prepare a detailed roadmap based on realistic projections. Focus on clean energy solutions that match our growth. Renewable energy will be the backbone of Telangana’s future,” he asserted. The plan must take into account power needs across urban and rural sectors—particularly municipal corporations, Greater Hyderabad, and infrastructure under the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority. He also asked officials to coordinate power planning for radial roads and satellite townships from the Outer Ring Road to the Regional Ring Road.Box Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy said the Future City should have a comprehensive underground electricity network. “Upgrade the electricity sub-stations as per the power demand at the field level, and focus should be on the modernisation of power lines. Power towers, poles, and lines should not be visible in the Future City, and high tension lines should also be shifted. Prepare plans for solar power generation on the 160-km stretch on the ORR,” he said.He said the feasibility of solar power generation on footpaths and nalas within the GHMC limits should also be explored by the officials. “Set up smart poles on an experimental basis in the secretariat, Necklace Road, and KBR Park in the GHMC area,” Revanth told the officials.
