Robin Weaver: I’m tight, but these Amazon Prime Day deals could be too good to miss
July 9, 2025
I’m tight when it comes to money and struggle to part with cash unless I definitely, absolutely, need something new or a favourite bit of kit is beyond replair and needs replacing.
That means when it comes to things I don’t really need, I’m awful. But, there are some cool products I would like to own, yet would only consider splashing the cash if a hefty discount was involved.
Of course, I’ll encourage everyone to support their local bike shops and retailers first and foremost, but if you do feel tempted to delve into the Bezos Bargain Bin, there are lots of deals to be had as part of Amazon Prime Day.
I use a Garmin GPS computer on my bike. While some may moan about the Garmin interface, I’m used to it and quite like how it all functions and works alongside the Garmin Connect app.
As a keen runner, I like to keep track of what I’m up to off the bike, too. My current watch isn’t a Garmin and requires a different app to function. It’s not a major issue, but ideally, I’d prefer everything to live on Garmin Connect.
Having owned a Garmin Forerunner and Fenix 2 watch in the past, I’m keen to try another one.
This Forerunner 255 GPS watch currently has 40% off for Prime Day and is filled with loads of handy features.
The colour screen will display all your essential training data, as well as monitoring heart-rate variability and respiration rate. It can show emails and texts, and be used to pay for the shopping thanks to Garmin Pay.
It can be used for a multitude of other sports as well, meaning it won’t matter if I forget my computer head unit from time to time.
We use this camera all the time when filming our MBUK TV videos and it’s a great bit of kit.
Not only does it sync easily with the DJI wireless mics, the quality and usability are superb, too.
On top of that, the batteries last so much longer than the older GoPro cameras we have kicking about, which makes a massive difference, especially in the depths of winter.
Tom Marvin used one of these to shoot all three of his Eurobike 2025 videos, which look fantastic.
It shoots in 4K and manages low or dappled light really well, adapting quickly, and does a great job of stabilising footage so you don’t feel sick when watching it back.
The touchscreen is a decent size, so watching footage back to ensure you got the shot is more than manageable, while the interface is easy to understand and use.
It’s a foolproof bit of kit and a great way to capture ride footage – something I need to do more of.
As a hoarder of tools, I’m forever looking at ways of tidying my kit up and doing my best to keep things organised.
This three-in-one toolbox from Stanley caught my eye, firstly because of the hefty discount and secondly because it looks pretty handy.
I’ve had loads of stuff from Stanley in the past and while it might not offer the best outright quality, it’s decent enough for the money and will do the job well.
This three-tier stacking unit looks ideal for bulkier tools that I’d struggle to fit in my smaller toolboxes, or good for creating a portable kit that I can easily transport back and forth from the car, should I need to take it to events.
It’s a real plus that it costs half the original retail price at present, too.
I love a bit of a workout and, because I’m too tight to pay for a gym membership, I do them at home.
My weights are a little limited and quite old, though, so updating them with these kettle bells from Phoenix Fitness makes a lot of sense.
I’d go for the 12kg kettle bell, although the lighter ones are available with a bigger discount.
Kettle bells can be used for loads of off-bike training and are a great way to improve arm, shoulder and leg strength.
OK, this isn’t bike related in the slightest, but as a lover of the great outdoors, I’m keen to get stuck in to all activities off the bike and would love to give a stand-up paddle board a go.
This one doesn’t look particularly fancy, but for a beginner like me, it looks to include everything I’d need.
Along with the inflatable board, you get an adjustable paddle, leash, high-pressure pump, repair kit and a backpack to store and carry it all in. Not bad for just over £100.
