The Rock Island City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance which would limit the number of cannabis licenses in the city.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Rock Island is moving towards regulating its cannabis dispensaries.

On Monday, June 9, the Rock Island City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance that would limit the number of active cannabis licenses in the city to two at a time. Additionally, dispensaries would be required to go through a period of provisional licensing before receiving full licensure. That provisional license would allow dispensaries to conduct due diligence before opening, such as dealing with zoning and lane use requirements.

Under the ordinance, the annual fee for the license would be $100. Licenses would last for two years upon being given out and can be renewed for up to five two-year intervals.
