Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of more than £750,000 have been seized during a raid in Rotherham.

Officers from Rotherham Central Neighbourhood Policing Team found 761 plants inside a property in Thames Street on 30 January.

South Yorkshire Police said the plants were found growing across several floors in the property connected by holes in the walls, where bricks had been removed to allow access.

The raid was carried out as part of Operation Grow, which targets the production and supply of cannabis in Rotherham.

The force said information from local communities had aided Operation Grow to find and destroy dozens of drugs production locations, resulting in “tens of millions of pounds worth of cannabis” being seized.

Insp John Crapper said: “I would urge the public to report any concerns to us.

“Remember to look out for the signs that a property is potentially being used for illegal activity.”
