RWE and Amazon Web Services sign renewable energy deal

RWE has signed a strategic framework agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) aimed at strengthening the German utility’s digital transformation.
Under the agreement, RWE will continue to supply wind and solar power to AWS data centers. Meanwhile while the tech giant will deliver the company with cloud services – including AI and data analytics.
Some of the wind and solar projects used to supply the data centre are already operational, while others are still under construction, RWE said.
The two companies have already executed seven Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) in the US with an overall capacity of 1.1GW.
“Advancing digitalisation and electrification are also driving up demand for electricity. Our competitive portfolio of renewable and flexible energy generation is ideally suited to meet this demand,” Ulf Kerstin, chief commercial officer of RWE supply and trading said.
