North Little Rock-based Scenic Hill Solar, in partnership with the City of De Queen, De Queen School District, and Sevier County, completed three state-of-the-art solar power plants in the southwest Arkansas community.
The power plants are located directly south of the De Queen Primary School and will provide a total of 4.280 megawatts of clean, renewable energy benefiting the city, school district, and county through net-metering.
The projects are expected to begin generating electricity in the next two weeks.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday (June 17).
“This solar project represents a major step forward for De Queen, the De Queen School District, and Sevier County in our commitment to sustainability and economic growth,” said Jeff Brown, Mayor of the City of De Queen. “We are thrilled to work with Scenic Hill Solar to harness the power of the sun to benefit our residents, students, and businesses for years to come.”
“Both the school and the community are thrilled that this project has now become a reality. We are excited about the energy savings and efficiency that this project can provide for our school district,” said Jason Sanders, Superintendent of the De Queen School District.
“I think there are far reaching benefits for this solar project and Sevier County is proud to be a part of it,” said Sevier County Judge Sandra Dunn.
“We are excited to partner with the City of De Queen, the De Queen School District, and Sevier County to make this project a reality,” said Bill Halter, CEO of Scenic Hill Solar and former Arkansas Lt. Governor. “This project exemplifies the positive impact that solar energy can have on local communities—creating jobs, reducing energy costs, and providing long-term environmental benefits.”
