Schneider Electric to invest $700 million, create jobs to boost US energy infrastructure

March 25, 2025

Schneider Electric announced Tuesday that it plans to invest more than $700 million in its U.S. operations through 2027, with some of that money being coming to Texas.

With a wave of companies tapping into the artificial intelligence boom as a means to engineer a domestic manufacturing “renaissance,” Schneider said it intends to leverage the investment to “support the country’s focus on bolstering the nation’s energy infrastructure to power AI growth, boost domestic manufacturing, and strengthen energy security.”

The money will go toward manufacturing expansions and creating more than 1,000 new jobs with roles such as next-generation manufacturing professionals, engineers, developers and technical analysts.

The investment will bolster “smart factory transformation” across several states that include Texas, Massachusetts, Tennessee and Missouri, among others, according to the energy management and automation company.

A campus in El Paso will be expanded to keep up with growing demand to increase production of switchgear and power distribution products, Schneider said. Meanwhile, an innovation center will be opened in Houston to provide a range of AI-drive automation solutions.

According to Schneider, its announcement constitutes the largest planned single capital expenditure commitment by the company in its 135-plus years in the United States.

“We stand at an inflection point for the technology and industrial sectors in the U.S., driven by incredible AI growth and unprecedented energy demand,” Aamir Paul, president of North America Operations for Schneider Electric, said in a statement.

“To lead the transformation ahead, we must be agile and act now to advance ambitious digitalization and efficiency goals to make an impact for generations to come.”

Last summer, the company also opened a 105,000-square-foot facility in Red Oak to support the ever-expanding data center footprint in Dallas-Fort Worth, tapping into the widening trend of companies building up domestic manufacturing capacity.

“Schneider Electric’s significant investment is a clear sign that manufacturing in America is moving forward — driving economic growth, innovation and job creation across the country,” National Association of Manufacturers President and CEO Jay Timmons said in the release.

“By expanding their operations with a focus on energy security, automation and AI, Schneider Electric is not only strengthening America’s competitiveness but also creating new opportunities and powering our nation’s future.”

North America is Schneider Electric’s largest region. The company employs more than 21,000 workers in the U.S., operates over 20 smart factories and distribution centers, and partners with approximately 40% of Fortune 500 companies. Its products and solutions are in an estimated four of 10 U.S. homes; 40% of the world’s hospitals; and 40,000 water and wastewater installations in 150 countries, according to the release.

This investment was announced while Schneider Electric was participating in the March 35-27 DISTRIBUTECH 2025 conference in Dallas.

It also introduced its new One Digital Grid Platform — an integrated and AI-enabled software platform that helps utilities to accelerate grid modernization and meet the demands of an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving grid environment — and a membership in EPRI’s DCFlex initiative that allows participants across industries and sectors explore how data centers can support the electric grid and enable better asset utilization.
