May 2, 2026
HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Horry County Police Department’s SWAT vehicle, known as the Bearcat, was involved in a crash near a police scene.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said that the 2022 Ford 550 Bearcat registered to Horry County and a 2026 Tesla were involved in a crash.
Both cars were traveling north on SC-707.
While the emergency lights were on, the Bearcat hit the back of the Tesla that had slowed down in front.
There were no injuries.
The vehicle was later seen at the scene of a search for a wanted suspect in Horry County, which ended Friday without an arrest.
The Horry County Sheriff’s Office said it received a tip about a person wanted on charges of first-degree assault and battery and reckless discharge of a gun at 4835 Highway 17 Bypass. Online records show it is 808 Studios, a recording studio.

Just after 5 p.m., the sheriff’s office said the scene was cleared, and the suspect was not there.
Earlier in the day, deputies conducted a threat assessment, prompting the Horry County Police Department to respond for assistance.
The sheriff’s office set up a perimeter, and deputies tried to call the suspect out, but the suspect was ultimately not there.
Deputies also evacuated adjacent units in the building and blocked Frontage Road.
