Semiconductor Company investing over $100 million in Onondaga County

DEWITT, N.Y. (WBNG) — According to Onondaga County Executive Director, “Onsemi,” a semiconductor company, has acquired the former NextGen fab facility. The goal is to invest millions in the community and create dozens of jobs.

Onsemi plans to invest nearly $120 million in the county and create 80 new jobs in the semiconductor industry. The company designs and manufactures energy-efficient solutions for industries such as automotive, industrial, and others. Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon spoke about how impactful this investment is on the community.

“This is a truly exciting day for Onondaga County and our burgeoning local semiconductor industry,” McMahon said. “The massive investment and jobs proposed by Onsemi serves as further validation that Onondaga County and Central New York have become the hub for companies looking to expand and grow in the semiconductor space. Congratulations and welcome to the onsemi team!”

The project is set to be completed in two phases: a research and development phase followed by a manufacturing phase. A timetable has not been announced. Onsemi is a Fortune 500 semiconductor company with around 30,000 jobs worldwide, 4,000 of them in the U.S.
