LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – President Donald Trump signed the Congress-approved funding bill on Wednesday evening.
One item within the appropriation bill was the regulation of THC amounts allowed in products.
“So we’re not in panic mode yet,” CEO/Founder of Cannabuzz Annie Rouse said.
The cannabis industry has been on the rise since the legalization of marijuana both medically and recreationally, beginning in the 2010s.
Rouse is the founder of Cannabuzz. It is a THC drink infusion bar in Lexington. She says she entered the cannabinoid industry through research in 2009.
“We as businesses all created markets around that and have invested a lot of time and energy into that and took great risk,” Rouse said.
Rouse is one of those who took advantage of the growing interest. she says the 2018 Farm Bill passage really advanced the cannabinoid industry in Kentucky.
“It will take one year to set into effect and if nothing changes in that language over the next year, then we will be facing a complete ban on these products. they’ll be restricted like marijuana,” Rouse said.
Rouse says changes to Kentucky’s state law last session stopped her from being able to sell many of her drinkable products in stores because of THC concentrations.
With all of her current hemp and CBD products being unlawful, she faces another potential setback in keeping her shelves stocked and her customers satisfied.
“I think we can in this next legislative session in Kentucky really come to the table as an industry and further create safeguards within that legislation that’s already been made,” Rouse said.
Rouse says she will continue to provide her cannabis services and expertise to the community as long as it remains legal…
“Making sure we can maintain what we are currently doing and that we can grow into the future and continue to have this be an agricultural staple within Kentucky and the United States,” Rouse.
