BEAVER DAM, Ky. — The shelves at Kentucky’s first medical marijuana dispensary are empty.
A week after opening its doors on Dec. 13, The Post, located in Beaver Dam, Ky., said it has temporarily closed its doors.
In a social media post, the dispensary said it has sold out of product as of Dec. 19.
“This week has been absolutely incredible – your support, kindness, and trust mean the world to us,” officials said. “Your support, kindness, and trust mean the world to us. We’re beyond grateful for the amazing turnout and the opportunity to serve this community.”
More than 13,000 Kentuckians have received a medical marijuana card as of September. Chronic pain was the number one condition patients were approved for.
The Post plans to reopen in January 2026 once it is fully restocked. An exact reopening date has not been announced.
It’s been nearly a year since medical marijuana was legalized in Kentucky, but the rollout of the state’s medical cannabis program has been slow-moving.
Kentucky’s Office of Medical Cannabis (OMC) has distributed dozens of licenses for medical cannabis businesses to begin operating across the state, including 48 dispensaries.
Under state law, all medical cannabis sold at licensed dispensaries must be grown and processed in Kentucky, with cultivation of the plant beginning roughly five months ago.
