Some air pollution is getting worse in the Kalamazoo area. Michigan isn’t sure why

KALAMAZOO, MI – Levels of fine, inhalable particles in outdoor air that can aggravate asthma and cause health issues have been increasing in the Kalamazoo area, and the state doesn’t have an immediate explanation why.

State regulators are proposing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency label Kalamazoo County out of “attainment” for standards governing particulate pollution in the air for the first time in its history.
