South Korea and US partner for renewable energy research
February 9, 2025
Amongst their focus are solar and energy storage.
The Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) and the US Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have signed a memorandum of understanding for a joint renewable energy research and technology development.
In a statement, KIER said their collaboration will focus on key carbon-neutral technologies such as solar energy, hydrogen, and energy storage.
Through the deal, both institutions agreed to identify joint research projects in common areas of interest, hold regular workshops, and foster technical collaboration through expert exchanges.
This latest partnership follows those previously signed by KIER and NREL in 2000 and 2015. It also aligns with government initiatives to leverage international joint research opportunities highlighted in the Camp David Summit Declaration in 2023.
The two institutions plan to hold an in-person workshop in the US later this year and initiate joint research planning, strengthening global partnerships.
