Southwest Wisconsin Technical College And Ameresco Completes Solar + Battery Storage Proje
April 16, 2025
Ameresco, Inc., a leading provider of energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions, in partnership with Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a new solar array and battery energy storage system (BESS) on the college campus. Members of the media are invited to attend the event, which marks a significant step in the institution’s efforts to embrace sustainable energy technologies.
The project represents a $1.6 million investment in clean energy infrastructure and includes a 300-kilowatt solar array along with a 125-kilowatt BESS. This integrated system is designed to supply approximately 60 percent of the electricity used in Building 400, one of the college’s most energy-demanding facilities during the summer months. In addition to supporting the college’s sustainability goals, the system is expected to reduce annual utility costs by an estimated $30,000.
Beyond cost savings and energy efficiency, the system provides a critical function by offering backup power to the Student Services building in the event of a power outage. This ensures greater reliability and resilience for campus operations. This installation is the first of its kind on the campus and is intended to serve as a practical educational tool.
It will provide students and apprentices with direct, hands-on experience working with renewable energy and energy storage systems. The project supports workforce development in the growing fields of clean energy and sustainability, aligning with the college’s mission to prepare students for future-ready careers.
