SpaceX IPO Could Be Largest in History at Nearly $2 Trillion Valuation

SpaceX is approaching what could become the largest initial public offering in history, with speculation placing its valuation near $2 trillion, according to a report published on Yahoo Finance on May 18, 2026. However, projecting the company’s stock price out to 2030 is described as more akin to astrology than sound financial analysis. The company must navigate regulatory obstacles and achieve major technological advances in the coming years to meet investor expectations.

Valuation trajectory

In late 2024, SpaceX conducted a secondary share buyback from employees at $185 per share, placing the company’s valuation at $350 billion. About one year later, a tender offer had pushed the company’s worth to $800 billion by December 2025. Earlier this year, SpaceX merged with xAI in a transaction valued at $1.25 trillion. Most recently, shares of SpaceX reached a valuation of $1.5 trillion on Forge Global‘s private market trading platform.

The company is reportedly targeting an IPO valuation between $1.75 trillion and $2 trillion. At the high end of that range, SpaceX would be valued higher than Walmart, Samsung, Meta Platforms, and Tesla. Because SpaceX’s S-1 filing remains confidential, investors have only estimates of the company’s revenue and profitability. Some analysts estimate that SpaceX generated between $15 billion and $16 billion in revenue last year, while others put the figure closer to $18 billion. Regardless of the exact sales number, SpaceX’s IPO valuation implies a price-to-sales multiple exceeding 100.

Business segments and growth

SpaceX currently operates two proven business segments, with a third, transformative one emerging. Its reusable rockets have dramatically reduced launch costs, helping the company win lucrative contracts in both commercial and government sectors. Starlink has grown from a niche connectivity service into a global broadband network. The company is increasingly marketing itself as an orbital AI infrastructure provider, using Starlink’s network and Starship’s launch capacity to deploy data centers in space.
