Spain approves decree regulating medical cannabis use
October 7, 2025
The Spanish cabinet approved a royal decree on Tuesday to regulate the medical use of cannabis through “standardized preparations.”
These are intended to offer a “therapeutic alternative” for conditions such as chronic pain, severe epilepsy, spasticity linked to multiple sclerosis, or side effects of chemotherapy.
The Spanish government stated that medical cannabis has demonstrated benefits, supported by international organizations, in cases where approved medications prove insufficient.
According to the government’s plan, cannabis use must be prescribed exclusively by specialist doctors in hospitals.
