St. Lawrence Co.’s first cannabis dispensary closes

POTSDAM, New York (WWNY) – A North Country cannabis dispensary is leaving town.
When The Highest Peak opened on Main Street in Potsdam in 2023, it was the first state-regulated store to sell marijuana in St. Lawrence County.
Last week, it closed up shop and is moving to Halfmoon, near Albany.
The owner, Aurora Wood, lives in Saratoga and has frequently had to drive between the Capital Region and the North Country.
She says that was not part of the original plan and unexpected changes led to this decision.
“It comes down to me wanting to be with my kids during the time they still want to be around me. As they grow, they’re going to want to be off with their friends and all that other stuff that’s going to be going on, but I’m still in this chapter where they want to be with me, and I want to soak that up,” she said.
Wood says she hopes to have the Halfmoon store open by the end of the month.
