State investigators, Red Hook police shutter ‘illicit’ cannabis shop

November 18, 2025

A shop in Red Hook was shut down for allegedly selling illicit cannabis products without a New York state license, including some that contained “concerningly high levels of THC,” the state Office of Cannabis Management said Tuesday.

The state cannabis office (OCM) and Red Hook Police Department sealed Red Hook Exotics at 7484 Broadway and issued it a notice of violation after receiving numerous complaints about it, including an anonymous report of an individual who became ill from a product at the store, the state office said.

OCM said its investigators conducted a site inspection that uncovered illicit cannabis flower, edibles and concentrate, including untested products from out of state.

One recovered brand of edible packages contained 5000 milligrams of THC, it said. The legal limit for tested edible products is 100 milligrams per package (10 milligrams per serving).

OCM has now issued 488 sealing orders and conducted approximately 2,000 inspections, resulting in the seizure of over 29,000 pounds of illicit cannabis valued at more than $125 million.

There are now 522 licensed dispensaries in New York.
