Stock Market Today: Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq Set to Open Down; China Trade Talks; Nvidia Speec

June 10, 2025

Stocks were headed for mild losses on Tuesday as investors shied away from making any major moves ahead of a second day of trade talks between China and the U.S.

Futures tracking the Dow Jones Industrial Average were down 1 point, effectively trading flat. S&P 500 futures were also flat, while contracts tied to the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 fell 0.1%.

The three gauges barely moved on Monday, with the market very much in wait-and-see mode as officials from Beijing and Washington met in London. Investors are hoping that the talks will help to de-escalate trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies, with rare-earth minerals likely top of the agenda.

Things are likely to pick up this week. The London summit will remain in the spotlight for now, while consumer price inflation due out Wednesday and a 30-year Treasury bond auction Thursday also have the potential to move stock prices.

“Who knew quiet Mondays were still a thing?” Deutsche Bank macro strategist Jim Reid said in a research note. “The calm is unlikely to last though.”

The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note slipped 2 basis points to 4.46% on Tuesday. Gold prices slipped 0.2%. The U.S. Dollar Index, which tracks the greenback against a weighted basket of six other currencies, climbed 0.4%.
