Stop pretending that New York can affect climate change (Your Letters)

March 25, 2025

To the Editor:

Regarding “Lawmaker, advocate call on Gov. Hochul to get moving on ‘Cap and Invest’ ” (March 18, 2025):

Let us New Yorkers stop deluding ourselves that our local efforts can actually affect climate change in some meaningful way!

We should combat local polluters where they exist with appropriate regulations and fines but we should not be increasing the cost of homeownership and maintenance for average New Yorkers with rules and regulations that have no impact on climate.

We 20 million New Yorkers make up well less than 1% of the world’s population, so let’s use our resources to develop renewable energy resources and allow time for our infrastructure to develop for safe, efficient and effective use of these technologies. There should be no rush to judgment and there is no climate catastrophe that we can influence.

Let’s work together for an economical and sustainable future for all New Yorkers devoid of ineffective climate regulations.
