Taiko Announces DAO Security Council, Featuring Leading Ethereum Projects

April 2, 2025

The Security Council will stay ahead of security issues for the DAO

LONDON and SINGAPORE, April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Taiko, the first based rollup, is proud to announce the Security Council members of its DAO. This marks the next step toward the full launch and a new standard for decentralization for Taiko, from governance to infrastructure.

The Taiko Security Council protects the protocol from security issues. This is a standard practice for DAOs and ensures the protocol meets industry standards and works smoothly with Ethereum’s security setup.

“Taiko DAO is taking over ownership of the network and treasury from Taiko Labs — a big step toward full decentralization. We believe Ethereum can only scale properly with both decentralized tech and governance. The Security Council will help safeguard the protocol, and we’re proud to co-build Taiko Layer 2 with such an amazing group of members.said Daniel Wang, CEO and Co-Founder of Taiko.

This deep knowledge and technical work requires the council members to be among the top minds regarding Ethereum and protocol security.

The members include:

  • Aragon:Aragon has a long-standing presence in the industry and is the most experienced company in DAOs. They are also the partner in designing Taiko DAO.
  • Chainbound:Chainbound is an R&D organization that actively builds Echo, Fiber and Bolt (proposer commitment protocol).
  • Daniel Wang: Daniel is the cofounder of Taiko and a major contributor to the Taiko protocol.
  • Drew Van der Werff:Drew leads public good initiatives such as Commit-Boost (a lightweight validator platform for securely making commitments) and Fabric (standardizing based rollups).
  • Halborn:Halborn is one of the most trusted names in crypto security and is dedicated to securing the future of blockchain-powered projects worldwide.
  • L2Beat:L2Beat is a public goods research and analysis company dedicated to providing onchain transparency within the entire Ethereum ecosystem. They play a key role in Ethereum.
  • Nethermind:Nethermind is the biggest and one of the earliest blockchain research and software engineering companies. They are also our partner in designing based preconfirmations at Taiko
  • Toni (Ethereum Foundation):Toni is a protocol researcher at the Ethereum Foundation. He actively contributes to privacy, economics, and protocol-related efforts.

The council is responsible for particular actions concerning the DAO and Taiko network. These include creating and approving proposals and managing the multisigs.

When it comes to proposals, Council members are the only ones who can submit directly to the governance system. They can act as gatekeepers for non-council members who want to put forward a proposal.

There are two levels of multisig management. The council manages the standard multisig for normal proposal flow and the emergency multisig for urgent actions that require immediate attention. For emergencies, like addressing vulnerabilities, they need to gather a supermajority (≥75%) of Council members for approval.

The confirmation and establishment of the Security Council is the next step in the full development and launch of the DAO, expected later this year.
