Tata Power Renewables Signs PPA for 80 MW Hybrid Clean Energy Project
October 5, 2025
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Ltd. (NSE: TATAPOWER), has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tata Power Mumbai Distribution to supply 80 megawatts (MW) of firm and dispatchable renewable energy, marking a key step in India’s transition to reliable green power.
The hybrid project—integrating solar, wind, and battery storage—is designed to deliver consistent energy supply during peak hours, addressing one of the country’s most pressing challenges: renewable intermittency. Expected to be completed within 24 months, the facility will generate around 315 million units (MUs) of electricity per year while cutting more than 250,000 tons of CO? emissions annually.
A key feature of the project is its commitment to four-hour peak power delivery with at least 90% availability, supporting Tata Power Mumbai Distribution’s growing customer base of 800,000 residential, commercial, and industrial users. Once operational, the project will help the utility meet its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) as required by the state energy regulator.
The agreement underscores Tata Power’s strategy to strengthen its internal synergies—linking its renewable generation arm with its distribution business—to deliver firm green power to urban centers. The initiative also supports India’s national goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
With this project, TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity reaches 11.3 GW, including 9.4 GW of projects under PPA and 5.7 GW under implementation. Its operational portfolio now stands at 5.6 GW, comprising 4.6 GW of solar and 1 GW of wind assets. TPREL also manages more than 15.7 GWp of solar EPC projects and over 3 GW of distributed installations across India.
This development reinforces Tata Power Renewables’ growing role in firm renewable energy supply—an area of increasing importance as India’s grid moves toward greater decarbonization while maintaining reliability.
