TE Connectivity Acquires EV Charging Inlet Business From Phoenix Contact
March 18, 2026
TE Connectivity recently acquired a major portion of Phoenix Contact E-Mobility business, which manufactures charging inlets for electric vehicles. The transaction follows Phoenix Contact’s decision to exit the automotive sector.
Phoenix Contact has been engaged in EV charging for a long time (since the early days of CCS1/CCS2), providing DC fast-charging components for all major standards.
Selling the EV charging inlet business (vehicle-side components) does not mean that Phoenix Contact is leaving EVs entirely. The company retains its charging connector and cables business, which is most likely significantly more valuable and profitable.
For TE Connectivity, which specializes in connectors and sensors, the acquisition appears to be an opportunity. The company explains: “By acting decisively in response to market dynamics – including the announced exit of Phoenix Contact E-Mobility GmbH from the automotive sector – TE is positioned to accelerate revenue growth and offer continuity of supply to major OEM programs in an evolving industry.”
Jean-Michel Renaudie, president of TE Automotive, said:
“This agreement supports our focus on delivering advanced connectivity solutions that are essential to next-generation vehicle platforms. It strengthens our ability to support our core customers with continuity and reinforces our position in Europe.”
Financial terms and conditions of the transaction were not disclosed.
Phoenix Contact E-Mobility has a broad portfolio of EV charging solutions, including CCS2 connectors rated for up to 1,000 kW (peak) and the all-new NACS (SAE J3400) plug rated for up to 500 kW (peak). An even more powerful NACS connector is in the works.
