Tech Giants Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft Beat Q1 2026 Earnings on AI and Cloud Growth

Four major technology companies delivered strong quarterly results on Wednesday, driven by expansion in artificial intelligence and cloud computing, according to a report by Yahoo Finance.

Alphabet Inc., Amazon.com Inc., Meta Platforms Inc., and Microsoft Corporation all surpassed earnings expectations for the first quarter. The reports provided investors with a clearer view of spending on AI and cloud growth across the industry.

Alphabet‘s profit rose 81 percent as its AI investments boosted revenue and moved its market value toward $4.5 trillion. Amazon experienced robust demand for its cloud services. Meta exceeded forecasts but increased its spending plans, which unsettled investors. Microsoft also reported better-than-expected results.

Growth in AI and digital services is becoming a key driver of the global economy, even as concerns mount that broader economic growth could slow, partly due to rising energy costs linked to the Iran war. The digital economy—encompassing advertising, cloud computing, and online retail—now represents about 15 percent of global GDP, or roughly $16 trillion, according to the World Bank.

Alphabet’s first-quarter profit soared as Google’s large AI bets pushed its stock to new highs. The company earned $62.6 billion, or $5.11 per share, in the January-to-March period, an 81 percent increase from a year earlier. Revenue rose 22 percent to $109.9 billion. Both figures were well ahead of analysts’ forecasts.

Digital advertising driven by Google’s dominant search engine led the growth. Ad revenue rose 16 percent from a year earlier, marking the fourth consecutive quarter of growth above 10 percent.

Google’s fastest-growing division remains its Cloud business, boosted by demand linked to AI. Revenue there rose 63 percent to $20 billion, helped by deals with corporate customers and government agencies, including the U.S. military.

The growth suggests Alphabet’s heavy spending on AI is paying off so far, although investors remain concerned that the company and its peers may be spending too much on an emerging technology. Alphabet’s share price rose more than 7 percent in extended trading after the results, putting it on course to reach a new high in Thursday’s session. The company’s market value is about $4.2 trillion, up from $1.9 trillion a year ago. If the trend continues, it could approach $4.5 trillion, adding more than $250 billion in shareholder value in a single day.
