Tesla and Rivian Stocks Decline, R2 SUV and AI Focus Could Drive Rivian’s 2026 Recovery

April 12, 2026

Shares of Tesla (TSLA) have declined approximately 30% from a peak reached in December, according to a recent market analysis. The report from Yahoo Finance notes that this downturn has similarly affected other electric vehicle stocks.

Rivian (RIVN) shares have also fallen by about one-third since late December. The analysis suggests the company has two notable catalysts that could emerge this year.

The first is the launch of its R2 SUV model. Deliveries to company employees are expected to begin this month, with customer deliveries increasing over the summer. The vehicle is anticipated to have a base price similar to that of the Tesla Model Y. The R2 is described as a full-sized SUV and will be Rivian’s first model aimed at the mass market.

The second catalyst involves the company’s focus on artificial intelligence. Plans to integrate more AI into manufacturing, the driving experience, and autonomous systems were presented at an event in December. The market initially reacted positively to these announcements, though those gains were later reversed.
