Tesla has released a new retractable sunshade for the Model Y. However, the accessory works only with the Juniper refresh and is only available in China, at least for now.

The sunshade sits flush and blends into the car’s exterior thanks to its matching color and fabric. It can be unfurled and closed by pushing the metal handle. Tesla notes that the roller mechanism works quietly and has been tested for safety.

The product comes with screw caps for precise placement and a fitting tool. As shown in the product video, installation may require two people, although Tesla claims the process is easy.

The new sunshade is priced at 1,499 yuan (aboutC$305/US$236) and will be available from June 4th.

It will help keep the car shaded during the summer months, when the panoramic glass roof lets in a lot of sunlight.

Interested buyers should also note that this first-party sunshade is compatible only with Model Ys produced after the Juniper update. The units manufactured pre-February 2025 cannot accommodate the required roller mount.

While demand for this kind of accessory is global, Tesla is releasing it only in China for now. It has not shared any plan for other markets, including the US and Canada, although based on prior product releases, it should land here eventually.

Tesla currently sells a removable mesh cover in Canada and the US that can be attached with clips. Model Y owners outside China can also opt for retractable third-party alternatives. However, this model undercuts them significantly as they can go as high as $800.
