Texas DPS has conditionally approved two medical cannabis dispensary licenses in the Houston region, marking a major step in the state’s Compassionate Use Program.
HOUSTON — The Texas Department of Public Safety has conditionally issued new cannabis dispensary licenses in Houston’s public health region as cannabis policy becomes a hot topic at all levels of government.
In a Dec. 1 announcement, DPS said two licenses would be issued in Public Health Region 6, which covers Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast, as part of the recently passed Texas House Bill 46. The licenses are part of the Texas Compassionate Use Program, which licenses physicians and dispensaries to prescribe and sell low-THC cannabis for medical use.
The entities receiving the licenses are Pc Tx Opco LLC, doing business as PharmaCann, and Story of Texas LLC. If DPS gives them final approval, they would be the first state-licensed dispensing organizations in the Houston area.
Both entities appear to be connected to franchises operating cannabis dispensaries outside of Texas, though their exact locations in Region 6 are currently unclear.
