December 26, 2025
The Club’s top 10 things to watch Friday, Dec. 26 1. Stocks were little changed this morning as the S & P 500 heads for a positive holiday-shortened week. The index was also poised for a month, quarter, and year of gains. Gold hit another all-time high this morning. The precious metal’s performance has blown away stocks this year, with gains of over 70%. 2. China imposed sanctions against 20 U.S. defense-related companies, including Club name Boeing . Friday’s announcement comes one week after the Trump administration announced a large-scale arms sale to Taiwan valued at more than $10 billion. Beijing wants Taiwan to be part of China again. 3. UBS analysts published their latest global sportswear survey, concluding that Nike ‘s brand remains strong. We added to our Nike position on Wednesday, following a post-earnings slump and news that Nike board members Apple CEO Tim Cook and former Intel CEO Bob Swan bought more shares. 4. A federal court judge denied health tech company Masimo ‘s request to block Club name Apple from importing certain Apple Watch models. As a result, Apple is seeking either a reversal or new trial relating to the patent dispute with Masimo over the blood-oxygen sensors found in higher-tier Apple Watches. 5. Club name Nvidia has agreed to buy assets from nine-year-old chip startup Groq for roughly $20 billion in cash, CNBC exclusively first reported Wednesday. Bank of America described the deal as “expensive but strategic” over the long term for the chipmaker. Analysts, who held their buy rating on shares, compared the Groq investment to Nvidia’s successful acquisition of Israeli chip designer Mellanox in 2019, which has become the foundation of the company’s networking “scaling moat.” 6. Oracle shares have dropped 30% so far this quarter, putting the stock on track for its steepest quarterly decline since 2001 . Investor sentiment has been weighed down by a lackluster earnings report earlier this month and concerns about the company’s ability to open more server farms for OpenAI. 7. Alphabet -owned Waymo paused its robotaxi service temporarily in the San Francisco Bay Area yesterday due to flash flood warnings. Earlier this week, the tech behemoth announced that it would update its robotaxi service to better-perform during power outages. 8. Google has rolled out a long-requested feature that allows Gmail users to change their old email addresses while retaining all data and services. Under the new policy, account holders will still receive emails sent to the original address. However, users who do so won’t be able to make another Gmail address for the next 12 months. 9. Netflix broadcast the NFL’s Christmas Day games for the second year in a row. Football fans yesterday quickly slammed Netflix’s production quality of the matchups between the Cowboys and Commanders and the Vikings and Lions. The most specific complaint was the streaming platform’s decision to interview former players in the middle of the Cowboys-Commanders game. 10. Amazon has had a tepid 2025. Next year could be different. If Amazon can bring AI infrastructure online fast enough to meet demand, maintain AWS cloud revenue growth rate momentum, and continue expanding ads and retail efficiency, we believe 2026 could mark a meaningful stock recovery.
