Pope Leo XIV, during his weekly public catechesis, spoke about the Church’s commitment to the environment.

Pope Francis, with the Encyclical Laudato si’, pointed out to us the urgent need for a contemplative gaze: if one is not a guardian of the garden, the human being becomes its destroyer.

It should be a different gaze, a way of thinking, a policy, an educational program, a lifestyle, and a spirituality that give shape to a resistance. For this reason, we speak of an ecological conversion that Christians cannot separate from that change of direction that following Jesus requires of them.

This is not the only action the Pope has taken to raise awareness about the environment. Take a look at this video he sent to the local Churches of the Global South, gathered in Belém (Brazil) during the world climate summit.

This has delivered progress, but not enough. Hope and determination must be renewed, not only in words and aspirations, but also in concrete actions. The creation is crying out in floods, droughts, storms, and relentless heat.

Pope Leo XIV has shown on numerous occasions that he is continuing the commitment to nature that his predecessor began. In fact, in September, he went to Castel Gandolfo to inaugurate the gardens and the Laudato Si’ Village for the care of the “Common Home.”
