The Science and Technology Daily reported on October 5 that interest in AI glasses is steadily rising. Recently, Meta’s Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth wrote on Threads that the Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses have almost completely sold out across offline retail stores nationwide, and nearly all trial fitting appointments before November are fully booked.

Bosworth noted that the current market response to the product has been stronger than anticipated, and the company is working hard to keep up. Additional stock is on the way, and the number of sales points will double this month to ensure supply. Meta is currently evaluating whether to support online ordering in the future.

During in-store demonstrations, staff assist customers in measuring the appropriate size and demonstrating the correct positioning and tightness required for optimal use.

In September this year, Meta announced the launch of the AI-powered smart glasses, Meta Ray-Ban Display, featuring a full-color high-definition display. Each pair of glasses comes with a Meta Neural Band, which converts muscle-generated signals into operational commands for the glasses. The product was first made available in select U.S. retail stores starting September 30, with the set including both glasses and the neural band at a starting price of $799.

Currently, apart from Meta, other tech giants are also actively entering the smart glasses market. Tech journalist Mark Gurman stated that Apple will enter the smart glasses market within the next 12 to 16 months, initially launching a non-display version of glasses to compete with Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses. Additionally, Amazon is developing two AR glasses models, one designed for delivery drivers and another for consumers.

According to IDC data, shipments of smart glasses are expected to grow by 247.5% by 2025, with total hardware shipments in the market reaching 43.1 million units by 2029, reflecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 31.8%. Meta holds 60.6% of the market share in this sector, providing strong support for its product performance.

Huaxin Securities pointed out that as AI technology continues to mature, future AI models may be capable of executing tasks directly based on users’ verbal instructions without requiring manual interaction with the interface. If this vision is realized, users will no longer need to manually operate traditional functional apps, as AI will handle operations on their behalf. Under this vision, end-side hardware would focus more on language interaction with users and information display, making AI glasses an ideal personal portable device.

From an investment perspective, Huatai Securities expressed continued optimism about opportunities in the AI glasses sector and recommended focusing on two main themes: First, the release of Meta’s new product could lead to upward revisions in sales expectations for 2025-2026, potentially catalyzing its core supply chain. Second, the inflection point for AR glasses products is approaching; attention should be given to segments with both volume and price upside logic, including: 1) waveguides and upstream glass wafers, silicon carbide substrate-related companies; 2) displays; 3) lenses and bonding.
