Following the majority decision draw in his fight against Lamont Roach over the weekend, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis took to X to give his take on the official result and believes he was hard done by with the result.

“They took the fight from me and made it a draw becuz I did that bullshit knee..but I landed the most punches in the fight..he didn’t even hit me w a punch when I took the knee. I get it though, I shouldn’t have done that but that hair grease was burning my eyes!”

As it so happens, Gervonta did not land the most punches in the fight with Roach having the advantage according to CompuBox stats, and he was beyond fortunate to have the referee afford him a mulligan when he took a knee during the fight which should’ve officially been ruled a knockdown. In fact, had it been correctly ruled a knockdown Roach would have won the fight on the official scorecards.

I doubt there will be many who sympathize with Gervonta’s version of events, and it’s probably Roach who has a better claim of having the fight taken from him, but he doesn’t benefit from being the A-side in this event.

In the post-fight interview Gervonta said that he would like a rematch with Roach to settle things clearly, but also acknowledged that it wouldn’t be his next fight as he has something else lined up.
