(OTC: LVVV), a company focused on acquiring special purpose real estate properties conducive to discovering and developing high-end organic cannabinoid products for the health and wellness industry, today wholeheartedly supports the California Department of Food and Agriculture CalCannabis Cultivation Licensing Division (CalCannabis) for its effort to establish appellations of cannabis origin including standards, practice and cultivars applicable to cannabis produced in a certain geographical area in California. The department is required to implement these new standards by 2021.

Appellations of Origin

Appellations of origin are a type of designation which provides consumers with information about where and under which conditions a cannabis product was produced. These labels of origin are associated with a geographic region and are typically geographic names associated with that region and are typically used for the advertisement of a product. In order to use these appellations, they must comply with additional requirements such as the product meeting specific standards or being produced by specific methods. The Business & Professional Code section 26063 mandates that the future cannabis appellations are associated with standards, practices and cultivars, in addition to the region of origin. This will provide increased transparency and significantly improved quality control for the benefit of the consumer.

Differentiation through High Standards

Appellation rules often times closely define which grape varieties and winemaking practices are approved for classification in each geographically defined appellation, which can cover regions, villages or vineyards. The Company strongly supports the process of applying the same high standards to cannabis growth and production in California. The Company’s Estrella Ranch prime location will enable a competitive advantage having established itself arguably in the middle of one of the most valuable wine appellations in California.

Strict Licensing creates Consumer Confidence

By petitioning the appellation of origin, commercial cannabis businesses will help consumers to gather more knowledge about the product and justify higher prices for certain products due to the added value that their origin provides. The required 3-year license is expected to ensure that origin information provided to consumers is informative and useful for making purchasing decisions and at the same time enables enforcement against the misuse of recognized geographical indications (GIs) to prevent misleading consumers. The certification also specifies that any advertising or marketing of cannabis must be compliant with the additional requirements of the Bureau of Cannabis Control, the agency that holds authority over advertising and marketing of cannabis. Records demonstrating compliance need to be retained by the licensee and Department staff will be inspecting licensed facilities to determine compliance with California’s licensing requirements. LiveWire already holds a permit granted by this office.

The aforementioned appellation system is expected to benefit consumers greatly and will create not only badly needed consumer confidence, but also clear distinctions between the products offered in the market. Protection of the name of a place recognized via the appellation has shown to have a notable positive effect on cannabis acceptance and sales. It is expected to be useful in differentiating companies based on the locations of their operations and the higher standard for the quality of their products, the basis for any cannabis producer to create increasing and sustainable revenue.
